Lima's Main Square
Scenery of the Spanish foundation of Lima, has served as a framework for some of the most important events in the history of Peru.
Originally it was surrounded by small shops and commerce. It was also used as a bullring and a place of execution of those convicted by the Tribunal of the Holly Inquisition. Later it was placed in its central part the bronze pool (1651) that adorns it today. It was here where José de San Martín proclaimed in 1821, the Act of Independence of Peru. In its surroundings you will see The Government Palace (north), the Cathedral and the Archbishop's Palace (east) and the City Hall or Municipality of Lima (west).

Church and Convent of San Francisco

Beautiful colonial architectural complex consisting of church and convent of San Francisco. Built in the seventeenth century, highlighting their cloisters and courtyards decorated with tiles from Seville and their wonderful library that contains valuable books from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. The Sacristy room is another beautiful part of the monastery presenting beautiful decorations of martirs laminated in gold leaf and a beautiful collection of paintings from the spanish artist Zurbarán. The church is built on a network of underground galleries and catacombs that served as a cemetery during colonial times and now can be visited by the tourists.
