Lima's Main Square

Originally it was surrounded by small shops and commerce. It was also used as a bullring and a place of execution of those convicted by the Tribunal of the Holly Inquisition. Later it was placed in its central part the bronze pool (1651) that adorns it today. It was here where José de San Martín proclaimed in 1821, the Act of Independence of Peru. In its surroundings you will see The Government Palace (north), the Cathedral and the Archbishop's Palace (east) and the City Hall or Municipality of Lima (west).
